Middleburg is the southernmost town in Loudoun County, along its border with Fauquier County in Virginia. It is known as the “Nation’s Horse and Hunt Capital” due to its foxhunting, steeplechases, and large estates. The Middlesburg Historic District, which has 18th century and mid-19th century structures, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The town was established in 1787 when Leven Powell, an American Revolutionary War Lieutenant Colonel and Virginia statesman, purchased the land from Joseph Chinn, a first cousin of George Washington.

The town’s name went from “Chinn’s Crossroads” to “Powell Town”, then later Middleburgh, and eventually, simply Middleburg. The 400 acre Glen Ora estate served as a country retreat for President John F. Kennedy and his family from 1961 to 1963. The oldest continually operated inn in the United States is the Red Fox Inn & Tavern, established in Middleburg in 1728 (then known as Chinn’s Ordinary).

Located in western Loudoun County and twenty five miles from Dulles International Airport, the town of Purcellville, VA provides easy access to outdoor activities such as hiking and farm visits while also offering a robust dining and craft brewery scene. Settled in 1764, the area used to be referred to as the “Village of Purcell Store” after the area’s first postmaster. The village was officially renamed Purcellville on July 9, 1852 and incorporated by 1908. The Washington and Old Dominion Railroad used to run from Alexandria to Purcellville.

The Purcellville train station is still standing and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. Many of the older structures in the area display the Victorian architecture that was prevalent during the turn-of-the-century. In addition to the train station, other historic sites listed on the National Register are:

• Locust Grove – A historic home that was built in two phases (one in 1817 and another in 1837). The original was a Federal-style single pile, two-story home made of fieldstone with a side gable roof. The later addition was two and a half stories, three-bay, double-pile, and also made of fieldstone. Federal and Greek revival styles can be seen in the interior of the home. The property also features a spring house, barn, garage, stone watering trough, and a chimney.
• Purcellville Historic District – This is the central business district in the area, but also includes some surrounding residential areas. The buildings depict a range of architectural styles that were popular during the 19th and 20th centuries in Virginia. It includes these notable buildings: Purcellville School, Purcell House and Store, Bethany United Methodist Church, St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Purcellville National Bank, Town Hall, and the Asa Moore Janney House.
• Rich Bottom Farm – This Federal-style, two-story, limestone and brick structured historic home was built in three sections from 1780 and 1820. The property also has a springhouse and smokehouse.
• The Tabernacle-Fireman’s Field – This is the historic meeting site and grounds which includes the Bush Meeting Tabernacle, a 8,500 square foot building that was originally built to house the “Bush Meetings” conducted by the Prohibition and Evangelical Association of Loudoun County. In 1939, the building was converted to a roller skating rink. Fireman’s Field serves as the home to the Purcellville Cannons of the Valley Baseball League.

The community of Aldie lies on the John Mosby Highway, between the Catoctin Mountains and the Bull Run Mountains. The eastern part is more residential with many newly built neighborhoods, while Aldie Hills maintained its agrarian character. There are three places on the National Register of Historic Places: Aldie Mill Historic District (includes the Aldie Mill and other historical buildings), the Loudoun Agriculture and Mechanical Institute, and Mount Zion Old School Baptist Church.

Little River, a tributary of the New River, flows through Aldie. Aldie Park offers beautiful walking trails and natural scenery for visitors.

Loudoun Crossing is a close-knit community located on Carriage Horse Drive. Residents love the events hosted for the families in the neighborhood – International Children’s Day in November and Fall Festival in October. The amenities include: a clubhouse, pool, tennis courts, fitness center, and a playground.

On Summerall Drive, Kirkpatrick Farms is a mountain view community with numerous amenities. There is a clubhouse, swimming pool, many playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, ball fields, and interconnecting trails nearby beautiful ponds. The clubhouse can be rented out for parties, conferences and any events planned by residents. Pinebrook Elementary is also located in the neighborhood.

The Lenah Hill neighborhood has a variety of single family homes with access to many recreational amenities. Located in Fairfax County in Virginia, Vienna is a town bordered by Interstate 66 in the South, the Capital Beltway (Interstate 495) in the East, Route 7 in the North, and Hunter Mill Road in the West. Many commute from the area into Washington DC. Vienna is served by Fairfax County Public Schools, the 12th largest school district in the nation with the 7th largest school bus fleet. The Lakevale Estates neighborhood has 283 homes and is close by to downtown Vienna, along with Oakton and Reston. These schools are also conveniently accessible in the community: Flint Hill Elementary, Thoreau Middle School, and Madison High School. Central to Lakevale is a beautiful lake with a dock where residents can enjoy fishing or launching paddle boards or kayaks. There is also tennis courts, a baseball field, a playground, and six-lane pool with a wading pool. Community traditions include an annual July 3rd potluck block party, a Halloween parade for families, visits from Santa during the holidays, and Food Truck Thursdays during the Spring and Summer.

Part of Loudoun County in Virginia, Dulles is the location of the headquarters of Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems and ODIN Technologies. The nearby schools are: McNair Elementary School, Floris Elementary School, Rachel Carson Middle School, Westfield High School, and South Lakes High School.

Located in Fairfax County in Virginia, Herndon is the largest (population-wise) of the three incorporated towns in the county. In the past, Herndon was a hub of dairy farming and a popular local vacation spot. It was conveniently located along the Alexandria, Loudoun and Hampshire Railroad. The railroad was later converted into a hike-and-bike trail and the train station became a museum and visitors center for the town’s history. The Herndon Historic District is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Built in the early 1970’s, Hiddenbrook is a development with 393 traditional and contemporary-style homes. There is a clubhouse, community pool and tennis courts. Close by to schools, it is the perfect community for growing families. Nearby shopping is available in Old Town Herndon, Elden Street and Sterling Town Center. Residents love the tall trees, sidewalks and the tightly knit community.

The Kingstream community consists of 300+ single family homes in Herndon, VA.
