Living in Middleburg, VA

Middleburg is the southernmost town in Loudoun County, along its border with Fauquier County in Virginia. It is known as the “Nation’s Horse and Hunt Capital” due to its foxhunting, steeplechases, and large estates. The Middlesburg Historic District, which has 18th century and mid-19th century structures, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The town was established in 1787 when Leven Powell, an American Revolutionary War Lieutenant Colonel and Virginia statesman, purchased the land from Joseph Chinn, a first cousin of George Washington.

The town’s name went from “Chinn’s Crossroads” to “Powell Town”, then later Middleburgh, and eventually, simply Middleburg. The 400 acre Glen Ora estate served as a country retreat for President John F. Kennedy and his family from 1961 to 1963. The oldest continually operated inn in the United States is the Red Fox Inn & Tavern, established in Middleburg in 1728 (then known as Chinn’s Ordinary).

With the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains as a backdrop, today’s Middleburg offers local art, historic landmarks, great cuisine, and unique businesses. You can attend world-class equestrian competitions, visit the local wineries, and participate in many of the community annual events. The historic district is filled with equestrian shops, luxury brand boutiques, local art galleries, gift shops, and more! You are sure to find the perfect something for you or your family.
