There is an 11-acre park called Glyndon Park, with baseball fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, and nature trails that are perfect to take your little ones to. Central to Vienna is the Town Center. Similar to the area in the North, there are many detached single family homes with plenty of space for a large family. Many restaurants and shopping plazas are along Maple Ave. Patrick Henry Library is right off the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad trail. Catch a local baseball game at Waters and Caffi Fields, a turfed park with restrooms and snack shack. With its green space, desirable residential communities, and commercial development, it’s no surprise that Reston, Virginia in Fairfax County was ranked as “Best Place to Live in Virginia” by Money magazine in 2018. The American Institute of Certified Planners recognized Reston as a National Planning Landmark and “one of the finest examples of American 20th Century conceptual new town planning”. Reston is also considered a Backyard Wildlife Habitat, meaning that homeowners are encouraged to maintain their yards and gardens, while keeping in mind that they are part of the local habitats and ecosystems. Reston was the first 20th century community in the United States to explicitly include nature preservation during its planning.

Located in the Lake Anne area, Hickory Cluster is a community of modernist, box-shaped townhouses designed by DC architect Charles M. Goodman. With tall ceilings and hardwood floors donning the interiors, natural light can filter through. There are 90 International-style homes in the neighborhood, with 2-4 bedrooms, 1-3 bathrooms, family rooms, rooftop terraces, and private balconies. Pedestrian paths are all around the area, leading to the shops in the Village Center.

Considered the downtown area, Reston Town Center is filled with offices, apartments, shopping, and restaurants. Low rise condominiums and town homes can be found along Town Center Parkway. The neighborhood of Hunter Woods was built around the Hunter Woods Village Center, the first village center in South Reston. Leesburg is Virginia’s largest unincorporated town within a county. It is the county seat of Loudoun County, built in 1740. A largely commuter suburb, many who live there travel to Washington DC for work. However, there are many things to do for entertainment and recreation in Leesburg, VA! Historic Sites

Leesburg has 21 entries on the National Register of Historic places. Dodona Manor is the 19th century home of George C. Marshall, Chief of Staff of the US Army during World War II, Secretary of State, President of the American Red Cross, and Secretary of Defense. The property was restored to its Marshall-era appearance. Visitors can explore the historic house museum and its gardens. Tours are $15 per adult, and free for children and teens. Active duty military and immediate family members also have free admission, with proper ID.

Morven Park is the 1,000-acre historic estate with three museums, an equestrian center, and an athletic field complex. The Moven Park mansion, also known as the Davis Mansion, was a fieldstone house later transformed into a Greek Revival structure. Westmoreland and Marguerite Davis lived in the mansion from 1903 to 1942. They filled it with a range of eclectic antiques and furnishings from their worldwide travels – Belgian tapestries, hundreds of silver pieces, and Hudson River Valley Paintings. Tours through the mansion guide you through fully-furnished 1st and 2nd floor rooms, showcasing the Davis’ social and civic lives. The Davis family were avid equestrians and active in the Virginia fox hunting community. There is a museum honoring their history in these pursuits with art, artifacts, and memorabilia.

Vineyards and Wineries

Leesburg is also host to many vineyards and wineries. Enjoy a glass of wine in a bucolic atmosphere, while enjoying the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Ida Lee Park has public picnic areas, a pavilion, and playground areas – perfect for family weekend activities.

Providence Park is 20-acres with a playground, picnic pavilion, tennis courts and a trail that is perfect for hiking and biking. It is the perfect park to visit in the summertime, as many areas are shaded by the trees and the large pavilion.

Daniels Run Park is a largely wooded area with a small stream running through it – perfect for enjoying nature with your family. There are hiking trails and playgrounds. Visitors say that they enjoy it as a place of tranquility and a great place to teach their little ones about nature. There are multiple entrances to the park via the residential area nearby.

A great place for recreation for the whole family, Draper Drive Park is 16 acres with a shaded jogging trail and 2 large fields for soccer and other sports. The parking lot is convenient, along with a playground with wheelchair access. The playground equipment and soccer fields are well-maintained. A hidden gem in Fairfax, VA!
