Herndon is served by Virginia State Route 228, which heads directly through the center of the town via Elden Street, Monroe Street, Park Avenue and Dranesville Road. At the southern part of the town, SR 228 meets VA State Route 267 – a toll road that gives access to Washington DC (via I-66) and the Washington Dulles International Airport.

The community hosts a variety of celebrations year round. During the month of May, there is Friday Night Live! where free concerts are held every Friday from May through August. The Farmer’s Market is active from May through October. Other May celebrations include Towne Square Singers, Big Truck Days, Public Works Forest and Meadow Wildflower Walk. The Herndon festival occurs in June and is held for four days. For the fourth of July, there is a large celebration with fireworks display. In September, there is the Labor Day Jazz Festival, Annual Motorcycle Poker Run, Annual Naturefest Celebration, and the HerndonHalf Marathon.
